Collector as a curator and selector (III) Collection Marjanović

The project Collector as a curator and selector continued, and in its third stage, a more suitable insight was given to a private collection - the collection of the Marjanović family. It is a collection of graphics, drawings, paintings, and sculptures carefully formed since the seventies of the last century, whose collection includes over 270 works. A wide range of interests includes works by Nadežda Petrović, Jovan Bijelić, Milan Konjović, Petar Lubarda, Ivan Tabaković, Petr Omčikus, Ljubo Popović, Radomir Reljić, Radomir Damnjanović Damnjan, Dušan Otašević, Mrđan Bajić and many other artists. Works from the Collection were sporadically exhibited in the ARTE gallery as part of various thematic and independent exhibitions. At the same time, the Belgrade audience had the opportunity to get to know the works in the Belgrade Sales Gallery (the seventies and eighties, 2014), the RTS Gallery (works on paper by Ivan Tabaković , 2014) and the Graphic Collective Gallery (Graphics by foreign authors, 2016).

At the exhibition that accompanied this publication in the gallery spaces of the ARTE gallery in 2021, the most representative works were displayed, which enabled an insight into the character and sensibility of this private collection. To bring this character even closer to the widest audience, the art historian, and curator of the ARTE gallery, Anđela Maletić, presented the collection by discussing the artists whose works are the most represented and who represent the conceptual pillars of this private collection. The second written segment of the publication Collector as Curator and Selector (III) - The Marjanović Collection consists of an interview with Nikola Marjanović himself, where through a series of questions the core of the collector's passion is revealed, as well as the role of a collector in society. By focusing on only one private collection and its creation, the role of the collector is more closely defined, who appears on the art market as a selector of works of value to him, and who again acts as its main curator in front of his collection. The publication contains all the works shown at the exhibition, but also many others - paintings, drawings, graphics and sculptures that Nikola and Jelena Marjanović ambitiously collected and carefully preserved over the past couple of decades. The third stage of the project Collector as a curator and selector is dedicated to their efforts, and published with the aim of introducing them to the audience as well.
