DŽAMONJA

The Thalberg Gallery in Zurich organized the exhibition DŽAMONJA iron sculptures & drawings, which lasted from November 2022 to January 2023. On it, one of the last cycles realized by Dušan Džamonja, one of the most prominent sculptors of the 20th century from Yugoslavia, was presented.

Art historian Anđela Maletić, in the accompanying text of the exhibition, explains the artist's works with an approach that combines numerous lines of different shapes into one whole. It also hints that he is an artist, stimulated by limiting himself to a certain number of elements; by repeating or varying them, he performed a kind of plastic exercises with the aim of creating as many works as possible with original and successful visual solutions. Džamonja's authentic contemporary expression, shown through the questioning of materials and methods of their processing, was presented at the exhibition through tapestry, drawings and sculptures.
