Džamonja Sculptures and Projects

The Džamonja Sculptures and Projects exhibition was realized by the Belgrade Arte Gallery and the Zurich Thalberg Gallery, in the Arte Gallery exhibition hall, in 2018. The intention of the organizers of this project was to bring the creativity of one of the greatest artistic figures of recent local history closer to the Belgrade art audience. He is a multi-awarded visionary with an international exhibition career, whose works have found a place in many private and public collections around the world.
The author of the text in the accompanying catalog of the exhibition, Jelena Lazarevic, says: "Džamonja was very versatile in terms of means of expression with which he materialized his ingenious visions." His artistic oeuvre consists of free sculptures, architectural plastic, monumental buildings, architectural projects and works on paper. And with a cursory look at all these different types of creative expression, we see that it is a unique and recognizable poetics to which the artist was devoted throughout his life. Therefore, the intention to create a dry essay strictly divided into thematic parts does not seem like a good solution. Dzamonja's work should be interpreted through the constant correlation of works that exist in three dimensions as well as those created in one plane. The focus can easily be shifted from a sculpture to a drawing, from a stream to a building or a monument. Repertoire of themes and symbols, distinct abstraction, reduced color, rusticity of materialization are common to all Dzamonja's works.
